Member States unanimous in urging European Commission to propose that Swedish restrictions on the import of alcohol be extended

Brussels, 14/03/2000 (Agence Europe) - EU Finance Ministers showed themselves to be comprehensive towards Sweden, agreeing unanimously - Monday, in the framework of the EcoFin Council - to the principle of an extension of its restrictive regime on the import of alcohol until 31 December 2003. Since it joined the EU in 1995, Stockholm has indeed been allowed to limit the introduction of alcohol and tobacco onto its territory by travelers from other EU Member states.
