GENERAL NEWS / (eu) eu/institutional reform

14/03/2000 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has approved its "complementary contribution" to the IGC on the use of qualified majority voting in matters of tax and social security, in anticipation of enlargement (see yesterday's EUROPE, p.6). It proposes extending majority voting to all measures which, in the aforementioned fields, are necessary for the smooth running of the internal market. EUROPE will return to the details.
