Brussels, 14/03/2000 (Agence Europe) - The International "Baia Mare" task force, responsible for evaluating the damage from the accidental cyanide pollution in the Danube region, held its first meeting on Monday in Brussels, in European Commission buildings, while awaiting the finishing of its Secretariat in Vienna. The experts that it gathers under the Presidency of Tom Garvey agreed on the work programme and the following timetable:
- Next 27 and 28 March, Tom Garvey will go to Romania, to the scene of the accident. In the rush he will meet in Vienna the members of the international commission for the protection of the Danube, and will then go to Hungary on the 31 March.
- On 17 April, the Task Force will gather to examine the result of the evaluation report by the United Nations that is expected for the beginning of April. It will then discuss with representatives from civil society and governments and provide its final report by the end of the year.
