Commission authorises, with conditions, the Alcan/Alusuisse merger - Alcan cancels plans for takeover of Péchiney

Brussels, 14/03/2000 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has authorised the merger between the aluminium producers Alcan (Canada) and Alusuisse (Switzerland; Algroup), provided the parties divest themselves of: i) the Alusuisse alumina tri-hydrate plant in Martinswerk (Germany); ii) the Star mill operated by Alusuisse in Bridgenorth (United Kingdom), iii) machinery for the production of semi-rigid aluminium containers.
