11/09/2025 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 11 September, the European Commission announced that it has approved two new geographical indications. One is the Greek protected geographical indication (PGI) 'Κρήτη / Kriti’, an extra virgin olive oil produced exclusively from olives grown on the island of Crete. It is characterised by low acidity, a bright green colour and an intense fruity aroma. The Commission has also registered the Spanish PGI ‘Queso de Burgos’, which designates a fresh cheese made from cow’s and sheep’s milk, produced exclusively in the province of Burgos, in the Autonomous Community of Castilla y León. White or slightly yellowish, with a soft texture, it has a mild, milky flavour, with a subtle aftertaste of sheep’s milk, ranging from very faint to strong depending on the variety. These new designations bring the number of agricultural names registered in the European Union to 3,675. (LC)
