European Commission condemned for its lack of control over public aid to Hungarian nuclear project

In a judgment handed down on Thursday 11 September (C-59/23P), the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) annulled the European Commission’s decision authorising Hungary to finance construction of two new nuclear reactors on its ‘Paks’ site.

The judgment also annuls the EU General Court’s November 2022 judgment, which confirmed the validity of this State aid.
