In its 2024 annual reports, European Commission expresses its concern about attack on autonomy and fundamental freedoms

In its two 2024 reports on political and economic developments in the Hong Kong and Macao Special Administrative Regions, the European Commission highlights the continuing erosion of autonomy and freedoms.

This is particularly the case for Hong Kong, where the EU still represents the largest non-Chinese foreign business community. The report shows that the authorities continued to focus on national security after the imposition of the National Security Law in 2020 (see EUROPE B13670A21).
