11/09/2025 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 11 September, the European Union launched a €17.5 billion financing initiative to promote energy efficiency in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), led by the European Investment Bank (EIB) Group and supported by the European Commission. In a press release, the EIB states that this financing effort will almost double the current level of support over the period 2025-2027, by targeting energy efficiency and decarbonisation measures taken by SMEs. The initiative aims to mobilise a total investment of more than €65 billion by 2027 for energy savings by SMEs, “helping to close a market gap in Europe“. On the same day, the Commission also launched a dedicated working group as part of the European Energy Efficiency Financing Coalition, focusing on small and medium-sized enterprises. (PLD)
