Luxembourg, 15/06/2000 (Agence Europe) - Advocate General Fennelly expresses the view, in the opinion he has submitted to the Court of Justice, that the Community directive of July 1998 banning advertising and sponsorship by tobacco companies could not be adopted by the Council and European Parliament (in codecision) as a measure linked to the internal market. Thus this Directive should, in his opinion, be cancelled by the Court of Justice. The Court will probaly rule in the autumn.
