Council confirms EU position, given lack of "fundamental change of policy" in Cuba

Brussels, 15/06/2000 (Agence Europe) - The Council confirmed this week the EU position on Cuba, after examining the seventh evaluation of that position (adopted on 2 December 1996). In spite of "mixed signals", "there has not been a fundamental change of policy on the part of the Cuban Government", notes the Council.

It will be recalled that because of EU support for a United Nations resolution on human rights in Cuba, the Cuban Government cancelled in May a visit by a Troika of EU senior...
