Debate on broad economic policy guidelines emphasises differing views, but vote confirms that a large majority is in favour of an economic policy in-line with Maastricht criteria

Strasbourg, 18/05/2000 (Agence Europe) - The debate on the Katiforis report, concerning the Broad Economic Guidelines of the EU and Member States, has allowed the European Parliament to express itself in a general manner, with the participation of the European Commissioner for Economic and Monetary Affairs, on the economic situation in Europe and on its prospects. Different sensitivities were of course expressed.
