17/12/2025 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 17 December, the Agency for the Cooperation of Energy Regulators approved the amendments proposed by the Transmission System Operators (TSOs) concerning changes to the Capacity Calculation Regions (CCRs) in Europe (see EUROPE 13688/18). These CCRs are geographical areas that group together neighbouring electricity tendering zones and their borders. There are currently nine of them in the EU. The TSOs’ July 2025 proposal calls for two existing CCRs (Core and Northern Italy) to be merged into the Central Europe CCR, and for the existing Capacity Calculation Region (CCR) for South-East Europe to be extended and three new CCRs to be created (East-Central Europe, Italy-Montenegro and Eastern Europe). The TSOs will now have to submit a new proposal to ACER to formally merge the two regions. Link to the ACER publication: https://aeur.eu/f/k27 (PLD)
