Carbon pricing - European Commission proposes €632 million fund for EU companies affected by CBAM

On Wednesday 17 December, the European Commission proposed a “Temporary Decarbonisation Fund” to support European producers that export their products to countries without carbon pricing. Indeed, the Commission recognises that these operators will have a competitive disadvantage when exporting, due to the border Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) and the gradual phasing out of free allowances under the Emissions Trading System (ETS).
