European Parliament ratifies postponement by one year of application of regulation on imported deforestation

17/12/2025 (Agence Europe)On Wednesday 17 December, the European Parliament approved amendments to the regulation on combating imported deforestation (see EUROPE 13770/3) by 405 votes to 242, with 8 abstentions. Large operators and traders will have to apply the regulation from 30 December 2026, while small operators - individuals and companies with fewer than 50 employees and annual sales of less than €10 million in the products concerned - will be affected from 30 June 2027. By 30 April 2026, the Commission will have to present a report assessing the impact of the legislation and the administrative burden it represents, particularly for micro and small operators. Printed products are removed from the scope of the regulation. The text still has to be approved by the EU Council and published in the EU’s Official Journal before the end of 2025. (LC)
