EU reaffirms its “regulatory autonomy” in response to relentless attacks from United States

17/12/2025 (Agence Europe) – In the new draft conclusions of the European Council, dated Tuesday 16 December and obtained by Agence Europe, a reference has been added to the Union’s sovereignty over its technological rules. This addition follows US threats against several major European digital companies doing business on US soil. “The European Council underlines the EU’s regulatory autonomy in the digital sphere”, reads the latest draft conclusions. In a lengthy message posted on the US Trade Representative’s X account on Tuesday, the US authorities accused the EU and some of its Member States of “discriminatory and harassing lawsuits, taxes, fines and directives against US service providers”.
