25/07/2025 (Agence Europe) – From 24 July to 3 September, the EU Agency for the Cooperation of Energy Regulators (ACER) opened a public consultation to gather feedback from stakeholders on the proposal to modify the definition of capacity calculation regions (CCRs) in Europe, submitted by the Transmission System Operators (TSOs) on 2 July. These CCRs are cross-border zones where neighbouring TSOs coordinate the amount of electricity that can flow safely between them. There are currently nine in Europe. The TSOs have proposed adding three new CCRs to the South-East Europe region to cover the borders with the Energy Community countries and merging two existing regions (Core and Italy North). It will have to assess whether the proposal contributes to the proper functioning of the European electricity market and take a decision by December.
