25/07/2025 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 24 July, the European Commission sent letters of formal notice to 26 Member States that have not fully transposed the revised Renewable Energy Directive (EU) 2023/2413 into national law. Adopted in 2023, this directive aims to stimulate the deployment of renewable energies in all sectors, particularly those that present challenges such as heating, transport and industry. Member States had to notify the transposition of the directive by 21 May 2025 (see EUROPE 13646/34), with the exception of certain provisions relating to permits, which had to be applied before the 1st of July 2024. Only Denmark met the transposition deadline. The 26 countries now have two months to comply, failing which the Commission could issue reasoned opinions as the next legal step. (PLD)
