25/07/2025 (Agence Europe) – On Friday 25 July, the European Commission launched a public consultation to update the value added tax (VAT) rules applicable to the travel and tourism sectors. It wants to “address outdated regulations that create distortions in the EU single market and hinder sector competitiveness”. The consultation focuses on: - special VAT arrangements for travel agents, whose current tax rules are based on their margin and location; - VAT rules for passenger transport, where taxes are calculated according to the distance travelled within the EU. Stakeholders are invited to respond by Thursday 16 October. The feedback will contribute to a legislative proposal expected in 2026. For more information, go to https://aeur.eu/f/i0b (AD)
