On Friday, 25 July, the European Union rejected and strongly condemned “the disinformation and baseless accusations” spread by the Georgian authorities regarding the EU’s role in Georgia.
“Recent statements falsely claiming that the EU seeks to destabilise Georgia, drag it into war, or impose so-called ‘non-traditional values’ constitute a deliberate attempt to mislead the public”, stressed the spokesperson for the European External Action Service (EEAS) in a press release.
He also strongly condemned the personal attacks against Pawel Herczynski, [emphasising that] the EU ambassador to Georgia “enjoys the full trust and support of the EU”.
“We urge all political actors in Georgia to refrain from spreading disinformation, avoid inflammatory personal attacks, and work towards the European future for its population”, added the EEAS spokesperson, who believes that the deterioration of EU-Georgia relations “through Russian-style conspiracy theories and divisive narratives” only serves those who are opposed to Georgia’s democratic, European path.
