EU grants exceptional aid for eggs and poultrymeat sectors in Poland

On Thursday 24 July, the European Commission adopted a regulation providing €14.05 million in aid to Polish farmers who suffered losses due to 193 outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza subtype H5 (see EUROPE 13676/13).

According to the text published in the Official Journal of the European Union on Friday 25 July, the EU will finance up to 50% of the expenditure incurred by Poland to support the eggs and poultrymeat markets, which were severely affected by the outbreaks detected and notified by Warsaw between 9 August 2021 and 3 August 2023.

The aid, mobilised via the agricultural crisis reserve, concerns chickens and laying hens of the Gallus domesticus species, as well as turkeys, ducks and geese.

This support must be paid to Polish farmers by 28 February 2026 at the latest.

The aid will be available to eligible applicants whose administrative checks have been completed without waiting for all on-the-spot checks to be carried out on selected applicants. However, all on-the-spot checks will be carried out no later than six months after payments are made, explains the regulation.
