10/04/24 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 10 April, the European Parliament approved by 562 votes to 44, with 15 abstentions, the provisional agreement reached with the Council of the EU in February to delay the adoption of all sector-specific sustainability reporting standards (ESRS) for EU companies and general ESRS for non-EU companies (see EUROPE 13346/3). These standards will be adopted in 2026 instead of 2024. The new rules do not affect the timelines set out in the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD). Axel Voss (EPP, German), the rapporteur, said in a press release that this delay would give the European Financial Reporting Advisory Group (EFRAG) “time to develop high-quality standards and give companies the time to put them into practice”. The EU Council still has to validate the provisional agreement. To read the text: https://aeur.eu/f/bpb (AD)
