10/04/2024 (Agence Europe) – At their plenary session in Brussels on Wednesday 10 April (530 votes in favour, 63 against and 28 abstentions), MEPs approved the agreement reached with the Council of the EU (see EUROPE 13326/24) on the regulation to reduce methane emissions from the oil, fossil gas and coal sectors, as well as from biomethane, once the latter is injected into the gas network. “Until now, methane has been a blind spot in our climate policies. Today, we are tackling not only domestic methane emissions, but also those from our fossil fuel imports”, welcomed the co-rapporteur Pascal Canfin (Renew Europe, French). (PLD)
