10/04/2024 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 9 April, the EU Council’s specialised working party examined a fourth set of draft conclusions submitted by the Belgian Presidency of the Council of the European Union on the ex-post evaluation of the European Framework Programme for research and innovation (R&I) for the period 2014-2020, Horizon 2020, and the future of the R&I Framework Programmes. This evaluation, which was generally positive, was published by the European Commission on 29 January (see EUROPE 13338/6). The new draft introduces very few changes compared with the third draft of 4 April (see EUROPE 13383/10). In particular, the Belgian Presidency wanted to propose moving the sentence which points out that an additional €159 billion would have been needed to fund additional high-quality proposals submitted under Horizon 2020 from the “Core Principles” chapter to the “Implementation” chapter.
