10/04/24 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 10 April, the European Union expressed deep regret over the execution of Brian Dorsey in the US state of Missouri. This execution was the first to take place in Missouri this year, “which means that Missouri is returning to this inhumane and degrading practice”, lamented the spokesman for the European External Action Service, hoping that Missouri would eventually join the 37 American states that have abolished capital punishment in law or in practice. He reiterated the EU’s firm opposition to the death penalty. Sentenced to death for a double murder committed in 2006, Mr Dorsey was executed by lethal injection on the evening of Tuesday 9 April. He is the fifth person to be executed in the United States since the start of the year. (CG)
