Meeting between Chinese Prime Minister and President of European Commission allowed for a general exchange of views (including on human rights and trafficking in human beings) and to smooth out remain divergences over accession to WTO

Brussels, 11/07/2000 (Agence Europe) - "This first visit by a Chinese Prime Minister to the Commission, at a crucial time in our relations, enabled us to deepen the issue of accession to the WTO as well as the future of our relations in the shadow of the EU/China summit that will take place in Beijing in October," stated the European Commission President, Romano Prodi, following the Tuesday meeting with the Chinese Prime Minister Zhu Rongji.
