Proposal for a European Charter for services of a general interest drawn up by the Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) and by the European Centre of Enterprises with Public Participation (CEEP)

The establishment of a European Charter for services of a general interest is an old objective: the European Commission was already reflecting on it at the time of the Delors presidency. All attempts failed due to differences between Member States on the very nature and regime of these services. Now, the doctrinaire quarrels seem in part overtaken by events and the positions have moved closer together (see our "A Look Behind the News" section in the daily bulletin of EUROPE of 29/30 May of...
