Debate on French Council Presidency allowed MEPs to formulate remarks and Jacques Chirac to give detailed answers - Some MEPs regret that Mr. Chirac avoided speaking of European future "after Nice"

Strasbourg, 05/07/2000 (Agence Europe) - The presentation by Jacques Chirac of the French Council Presidency's programme (see yesterday's EUROPE pages 3, 4 and 5) was followed by a two part debate: first the spokespersons for the political groups spoke, and Mr. Chirac answered while adding details, often closely related to his initial speech. Then a general debate took place, and it was Mr. Moscovici who answered on behalf of the Presidency.
