Commission takes five Member States to court for failure to transpose directive on protection of data

Brussels, 11/01/2000 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission decided on Tuesday to engage in proceedings against France, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Germany and Ireland for failure to notify measures for transposition into national law of the directive on the protection of personal data. A statement by the Spokesman's Service notes that, in accordance with Court of Justice case law, individuals in these Member States may invoke certain provisions of this directive before national courts...
