14/10/2025 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 13 October, the European Parliament’s Committee on Transport and Tourism (TRAN) approved the agreement with the Council of the European Union on the revision of driving licences by 29 votes to 7. It also validated the agreement on the European provisions relating to driving disqualifications, by 31 votes to 5. The aim of the first text is to update the minimum requirements for driver fitness and to create a system of accompanied driving (see EUROPE 13607/7). The second text will make it possible to punish the perpetrators of serious road traffic offences throughout the EU, regardless of the Member State in which the offence was committed (see EUROPE 13608/4). These texts still need to be adopted by the whole European Parliament at next week’s plenary session in order to enter into force, as the Council has already adopted them (see EUROPE 13716/42).
