14/10/2025 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 14 October, new dates were announced to move forward European Parliament negotiations on the 2040 climate target. Although a vote was due to take place on 20 October in the ENVI Committee, it is likely to be postponed until 10 or 11 November, at the start of COP30 in Brazil. The shadow rapporteur for the Greens/EFA, Lena Schilling (Austrian), criticised the EPP’s “delay tactics”, saying that this further postponement (see EUROPE 13709/3) makes “the European Parliament look ridiculous, (...) waiting for mum and dad in the Council to decide for us”. Some MEPs want to follow the Council’s timetable, which provides for a discussion between European leaders on 23 October (see other news). Under this new timetable, a plenary vote on the European Parliament’s mandate would not take place until 13 November. The votes on the opinions of the Committees on Transport (TRAN) and Industry (ITRE) are scheduled for 5 November. (PLD)
