EU interior ministers call for joint EU action on return of Syrian and Afghan nationals to their countries

Following on from Sweden’s requests, already made at a formal EU Council meeting in June, the EU27 ministers debated in Luxembourg on Tuesday 14 October how to regulate the return of Syrian nationals to their country of origin, as well as Afghan nationals.

Countries such as Austria have opted for forced returns for Syrian nationals posing security problems in their country, and on Tuesday in Luxembourg several countries called for a joint solution.
