The European Parliament adopted its position on draft amending budget 2/2025 at its plenary session on Wednesday 8 October, with 479 votes in favour, 82 against and 77 abstentions.
The revenue side has been updated in line with the revised own resources forecasts, while the expenditure side increases the EU budget for 2025 by €3.3 million in commitment appropriations and €3.5 billion in payment appropriations.
In particular, this involves increasing payment appropriations for the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD) and adjusting programmes in terms of commitments (strengthening the ‘Customs’ programme and the carbon adjustment mechanism at borders).
The European Parliament regrets the significant redeployment of funds between headings, and notes that new political priorities or new needs should lead to new funding.
No changes have been made to the European Commission’s proposal. (Original version in French by Florent Servia)
