The Member States’ experts will finally be discussing the Polish Presidency’s latest compromise on the Regulation on the removal of child sexual abuse material from the Internet (‘CSAM’) (see EUROPE 13640/14) on 23 May in the Law Enforcement Group, rather than on 21 May as originally planned.
According to one source, this new meeting is not yet likely to result in significant progress towards an agreement in the Council of the EU, and the Polish Presidency is only considering a progress report at the Home Affairs Council on 13 June in Luxembourg.
This regulation was proposed in 2022 by the Commission. In January, the Polish Presidency removed the controversial element of mandatory ‘CSAM’ detection orders, leaving countries that favoured this obligation wanting. The final compromise focused more on the obligations of national authorities. (Original version in French by Solenn Paulic)
