To celebrate EU Diversity Month, the EU’s statistical office, Eurostat, published an infographic dedicated to equality on Friday 16 May, providing an overview of inequalities in the European Union.
The aim is to identify the areas in which certain groups may be discriminated against.
The data shows that 14% of EU residents were born abroad and that 21% live with a disability, defined as an activity limitation. In particular, these groups are at greater risk of social exclusion.
No less than 30% of young people aged between 15 and 29 with disabilities are unemployed and not in training or education, compared with an average of 10% of all young people in the same age group who are not disabled.
In addition, foreign-born women have an employment rate 18.1 points lower than that of foreign-born men.
Quantifying these disparities highlights the need to implement inclusive policies to promote equality and diversity within the EU.
