At their plenary session in Brussels on Thursday 22 May, MEPs adopted (489 votes in favour, 55 against and 38 abstentions) their position on the establishment of the Euratom programme to fund nuclear research and training activities (in addition to Horizon Europe) for the 2026-2027 period.
The report by Borys Budka (EPP, Polish), adopted under the simplified procedure, approves the European Commission’s initial proposal without amendment.
This aims to extend the current Euratom 2021-2025 programme for the remaining two years of the current Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF), until 2027.
The position of the Council of the EU (see EUROPE 13626/8) also differs little from the Commission’s proposal, which recognises a financial envelope of more than €598 million for the period from 1 January 2026 to 31 December 2027, which had already been set when the MFF was adopted.
