02/06/2023 (Agence Europe) – Apart from possible allergenicity risks, UV-treated powder of whole yellow mealworm (Tenebrio molitor larva), as a novel food, is safe in the context of the uses and levels of use proposed by the company Nutri'Earth, which is applying for a marketing authorisation in the EU (under Regulation 2015/2283), according to a scientific opinion provided by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) and published on Friday 2 June. Nutri'Earth has proposed using this new food as an ingredient in various food products, such as bakery products, pasta, fruit and vegetable compotes and cheese. The target population is the general population.
