Commission doubts that Italian aid to five steel companies is justified by environmental protection - Procedure initiated

Brussels, 02/03/2000 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has initiated an investigation procedure on aid Italy has paid to five steel companies for investments linked to environmental protection. This aid, notified in September 1999, represents a total of 1.88 million euro (3.6 billion lira).
