Commissioner de Palacio counts on "Erika effect" for Council and Parliament to rapidly adopt directives on maritime safety, to be presented for Commission approval on 23 March

Brussels, 02/03/2000 (Agence Europe) - "The tragedy of the Erika sinking must allow such disasters to be prevented in the future", declared European Transport Commissioner, Loyola de Palacio, on Thursday, presenting the communication on maritime safety to a group of journalists, before it is submitted to the College of Commissioners on 23 March.
