Future Dutch presidency establishes its priorities: integration of new members, financial perspectives, economic reforms, internal security, role of EU internationally

Brussels, 07/06/2004 (Agence Europe) - The Netherlands will be taking over the presidency of the EU from 1 July - 31 December 2004. According to a press statement published by the minister of foreign affairs at The Hague, it intends to focus on the five following priorities: 1) EU enlargement. This will, above all, mean ensuring the effective integration of the ten new members into the European institutions so that they will be able to work efficiently.
