France said to have rejected German compromise on reduction of direct aid to finance enlargement

Brussels, 17/10/2002 (Agence Europe) - France is said to have rejected a compromise offered by Germany on means of funding direct agricultural aid after enlargement, which risks turning the arm wrestle between these two countries into a crisis, diplomats said on Thursday. Germany is said to have proposed reducing by two percent a year, from 2004 (phased reduction) direct aid received by the farmers of the current fifteen EU Member states while maintaining it until 2013.
