Brussels, 30/11/2000 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has decided that Italy cannot grant State aid to five steel companies which, between 1986 and 1994, had invested for energy conservation purposes. The Commission considers that a basic condition for aid to be authorised is missing: - the incentive effect. The companies in question made the investment anyway, and the aid subsequently notified cannot be considered as having an incentive effect.
