Commission ensures concentrations do not injure consumers and do not lead to abuse of dominant position

Strasbourg, 06/09/2000 (Agence Europe) - At Parliament's request, Commissioner Mario Monti made a declaration in plenary session on mergers in the telecommunications sectors. The total liberalisation of this sector in most of the European countries has led to reduced tariffs of up to -35% and has allowed the creation of 500,000 new jobs in 5 years, said Mr Monti.
