European Commission simplifies procedures for examination of "problem-free" concentrations and begins review of regulations with view to proposing revision

Brussels, 28/06/2000 (Agence Europe) - On Wednesday, the European Commission:

adopted a negative decision on the merger between MCI WorldCom and Sprint (see following page);

approved simplified examination procedure of concentration operations (mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures) which do not pose any problems of competition;

adopted a report and open reflection on the working of the "mergers" regulation, with a view to possibly proposing revision in Council.
