European Commission sets its sights once again on the French system of insurance mutual benefit companies

Brussels, 12/05/2000 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has opened new infringement proceedings against France concerning its system of mutual benefit companies, which is considered not to be in conformity with Community insurance legislation. In December 1999, the European Court of Justice ruled against France for failure to transpose in full into national law the Community directives on life and non-life insurance (92/96/EEC and 92/49/EEC), in particular as regards mutual benefit...
