The Canadian groups ROGERS COMMUNICATIONS and VIDEOTRON have announced their merger, creating a cable giant in Canada with 3.7 million subscribers and capital of CAD 25 billion. The transaction will take place via a share swap, with one VIDEOTRON share being exchanged for 0.925 shares (without voting rights) in ROGERS, valuing VIDEOTRON at CAD 6 billion. The new venture is expected to earn CAD 4.4 billion in 2000.
