Commission proposes transitory measure to be applied on expiry of Lomé Convention while awaiting entry into force of new agreement

Brussels, 09/02/2000 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission proposed a "decision" aiming to introduce transitory measures aimed at covering the period between the expiry of the Lomé Convention (end of February) and the entry into force of the new ACP-EU agreement whose negotiations have just ended. So as to avoid a legal void, the Council will rapidly adopt the decision and then by the Committee of Ambassadors ACP-EU next 29 February. EUROPE will give further details tomorrow.
