Canada's COREL has paid a total of USD 2.44 billion for INPRISE (formerly BORLAND), a supplier of tools and services for Internet access infrastructure, in an effort to gain a foothold on the market for Linux. After the transaction, INPRISE shareholders will own 44% of COREL. The two firms had combined turnover of USD 418 million in 1999.
