The European Investment Bank published on 3 February a summary of its activities in 1999, during a press conference held by its new President, Philippe Maystadt (see EUROPE of 4 February, p.10). The Annual Report as such will not be formally approved by the Board of Governors until the spring. The summary is reproduced in full below. It gives details of the bank's lending and borrowing activities in 1999, both within and outside the European Union.
