09/02/2000 (Agence Europe) - The French Green European Parliamentarian Alima Boumeddiene-Thiery indicated, after a visit of the Europol headquarters in the Hague, that the Europol Director, Jurgen Storbeck, was in favour for the creation of a IT and European Freedoms Committee. Mrs Boumeddiene-Thiery, who was accompanied by other members of the European Parliaments Green party underlined to Mr Storbeck the weakness of the independent checks on computerised files from Member States, which should be centralised within Europol. In a communiqué, the Parliamentarian indicated that Mr Storbeck announced that though this decision is not his, he feels that the creation of such a Committee would clarify the questions of monitoring computerised files at a European level.
