A report published on Thursday 11 December, as part of the ‘State of Health in the EU’ initiative shows that Europe urgently needs innovative and resilient healthcare systems in order to improve healthcare and boost competitiveness.
Faced with pressing challenges (e.g., an ageing population, non-communicable diseases), EU Member States are now making progress on implementing essential reforms supported by European funding.
The synthesis report identifies four key areas for improvement: preventing non-communicable diseases, accelerating the digital transformation of healthcare, strengthening primary care, and promoting affordable access to pharmaceuticals and innovation.
Alongside the report, 29 Country Health Profiles have also been published, covering the latest developments in health trends and healthcare systems across all EU countries as well as in Iceland and Norway. They highlight the challenges specific to each country and analyse the effectiveness, accessibility, and resilience of their healthcare systems, focusing on the pharmaceutical sector in particular.
